What is HIPPY?
HIPPY is the Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters.
It’s a 2-year program that helps prepare parents and their young children for school - with support from HIPPY Tutors at home, and from other parents in the community.
HIPPY Tutors are trained parents or carers who have previously participated in the program with their own children.
How HIPPY supports families
- HIPPY Tutors make regular visits to family homes in the 2 years before school starts, to share free activity packs and stories.
- Tutors empower and encourage families to extend their parenting skills and engage with their children by introducing reading and educational play as a daily activity.
- After each visit, parents and their children spend time together practising the short and fun activities. The HIPPY activity packs and storybooks make it easy to read, draw, talk, and dance with children - there are so many ways to learn.
- HIPPY also has fortnightly group sessions in the community, for parents and children to further develop their love of learning, and their relationships with each other and within their community.
